round the world, the role and status of social work is under review against the background of sweeping global, regional and local changes. The contours of existing welfare regimes are dissolving and the foundations and boundaries of social solidarity are being redefined. These changes, as well as responses from those immediately affected by them, have a farreaching impact on social work to reexamine its relationship with the state and with society. For many social workers, the most challenging feature of their daily work is the growing inequality in the distribution of wealth, resources and opportunities globally and locally. As nation states everywhere come increasingly under the sway of international economic interests, the global split between poorer and wealthier countries manifests itself in exacerbated social divisions affecting users of social services and participants in social projects. 'Indigenous' social inequality is intrinsically linked to processes of globalisation and aggressive power politics, with concomitant population displacements and international forms of exploitation of vulnerable and defenceless people.

Socioaffective Neuroscience & Psychology is a peer reviewed open access journal that aims to stimulate multidisciplinary research into the central nervous system and its complex relationship with the surrounding social environment. Spurred by significant methodological and theoretical advances in cognitive and developmental neurosciences over the past two decades, two particular fields have emerged: (i) social neuroscience focusing on the role of the brain in processing social information, and (ii) affective neuroscience focusing on the role of the brain and how it reacts to emotionally, motivationally and other affectively related inputs. Several interesting topics are now appearing as these two fields begin to overlap, for example the question of the neural processing of emotional information conveyed by congeners, and the role of the brain in functional contexts involving dyadic interactions. In particular, during the last years, developmental research has allowed us to better understand psychological and neural processes involved in early social interactions.

The Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P) is an online knowledge resource that contains socioeconomic studies and materials produced by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and other academic and research institutions. Its establishment is in line with PIDS’ mandates of providing a common link between the government and research institutions, and of establishing a repository of socioeconomic research information.

Sociology and Criminology - Open Access publishes latest advancements and reports of socialistic and criminalistic views of a crime and their key role in criminal investigations. SoundEffects. An Interdisciplinary Journal of Sound and Sound Experience is a peer-reviewed online journal that brings together a plurality of theories, methodologies, and historical approaches applicable to sound as both mediated and unmediated experience. The journal primarily addresses disciplines within media and communication studies, aesthetics, musicology, comparative literature, cultural studies, and sociology. In order to push the border of interdisciplinary sound studies into new areas, we also incourage contributions from disciplines such as psychology, health care, architecture, and sound design. As the only international journal to take a humanities-based interdisciplinary approach to sound, SoundEffects respons to the increasing global interest in sound studies in the past decade.

Peer Review Process
Articles published in SoundEffects are submitted to a double-blind peer review procedure. The editors of each issue moderate and supervise the review process, and authors are able to follow each step of it.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
